It has been a few months since I have updated my pictures. I have finally completed the renovations to the Duplex and have moved in! I have one bedroom and the laundry room left to redo, but the majority of the work is done and I am able to live comfortably while I renovate these last two rooms. Enjoy these pictures and imagine the joy I took while watching these transformations take place.
Remodeling may not be easy for all of us, but we have chosen to buy the listed products for our bathroom renovation to prevent mold and mildew growth. During the demolition of the bathroom at the beginning of our project, we found some mold where the tiles were damaged or … Read More
If a comfortable abode is your desire, then don’t buy a farmhouse I live in an old farmhouse on 10 acres in Southern Michigan that I purchased about 22 years ago. The house was built before 1874, which is the date of the earliest plat map that shows a dwelling on this property. We found through conversations with people in the area related to the builder and first owner, that he was in the Kaisers Army in Germany. He lost a leg in the war and apparently his hearing from being strapped to the wheel of a canon cart as punishment for some misdemeanor. Apparently he was a carpenter and he must have been good at his trade because this house still stands after nearly 140 years.
We had purchased this charcoal grill to help us during the construction when the power had to be turned off. It served our … Read More
Small, narrow bathrooms can be cramped and uncomfortable, and sometimes we just don’t have enough extra space to enlarge them. If the bathroom is upstairs, simply increasing the footprint of the house may not be possible. There are DIY solutions to this home renovation dilemma, though, such as a clever re-purposing of some space borrowed from another room, or from the attic eaves.
On another evening a friend came over to paint trim. As the work progressed I got weaker it was good we hadn’t removed all the furniture; I lay on the bed as Liz painted trim. Both our husbands were out of town. It was sweltering hot. Our conversation as she painted trim that Sunday afternoon was so rich. We anchored the shelving units in place and trimmed around the cupboards on the bathroom side, painted the trim to match the baseboards, and mounted the glass we reattached … Read More
The renovation process is a give and take. For as much as it’s been glamorized in television shows, there’s a lot that happens in between the before and after shots that you don’t typically see. Ultimately, renovation is about discovering what your house can be, and letting us put in the work to make it happen.
Idea 6: If you entertain a lot and use your island mainly as a buffet, it may be preferable to use ambient bulbs for your hanging pendant light, so that it’s understated and softer lighting. Or, opt to use candles or a buffet lamp on your island. Knowledge is power Enelle! Thanks, I love it when I can DIY and surprise everyone-great feeling. Thank you for sharing! I do not find self-assembly furniture easy to assemble. I usually let someone else do it for me. Thanks for sharing this great information.

Bathrooms are often among the smallest rooms in the house, but they are rich with opportunity in a green remodel. No matter what the design goals for the renovation, two practical essentials are managing water and steam and selecting durable materials that are made to handle what’s often a tough environment.
I do NOT recommend pine sol. Ive been using it for a year now and I dread washing the floors as it leaves spots and streaks. We are renting and I just had it on my to do list to find another product. Im off to buy some vinegar and a microfiber mop so I thank you for your help! I really debated whether or not to paint the pine planked ceiling. I actually like the look of the raw pine, but it didn’t match the other wood in the house, so I decided to go with my gut … Read More

Now that you already know the materials you want in your bathroom, sit down and write up a good scope of work to share with your contractor. This is very simple and anyone can do it. It will usually consist of demolition and haul away, installing new cement backer board at floor and surround, installing tile at floor and tub surround, installing tile grout, installing all new fixtures and connect plumbing, installing hardware and prep and paint walls. You can get more detailed but even this basic scope of work will help tremendously with your bidding process and eventual construction … Read More
Do have an older bathroom with tiled walls? If so, chances are that some of the tiles are cracked or chipped, and the tile grouting might be stained or beginning to come loose. Maybe you’re just tired of the old tile and want a newer, more modern bath. Replacing tile is messy, time consuming, inconvenient, and expensive. The old tile has to be torn out, the backer board has to be replaced, and the new tile and grout have to be installed. Much easier options lie in tub surrounds.
When updating your kitchen island and hanging pendant lighting be sure to coordinate the metal finish to other fixtures and appliances in your kitchen. If you add counter stools to your island, be sure that the finish and materials of the stools also compliment the hanging light glass fixtures. Mirrors framed in wood add a warm and sophisticated note, whereas mirrors … Read More
