Basement Refinishing Ideas

In this poor housing market, Quonset huts are popular with new homeowners as well as with retirees looking for an affordable way to move to a warmer climate. A quonset hut is a type of arch-style, semicylindrical steel building that was used in World War II for equipment storage. Since then, Quonset huts have been used for inexpensive equipment storage in commercial and agricultural settings. In today’s housing market, Quonset-hut homes are a popular option, mainly because they’re less expensive to build or buy than other types of homes and can be built in less time.

Yes. Many home owners do not understand that if you ever have damage to your home, and the cause started in the basement, it may not be covered by insurance if you did not have a permit on the basement finish. It also insures that the contractor has built your basement to the minimum … Read More

DIY Remodeling The 1940s Duplex.

I also like to think of myself as a professional amateur interior designer and furniture expert. I’m quite handy around the house, as it turns out.

Am I correct in my thinking that a wet room has at least a shower head, no defined shower walls, and a sunken drain? It would perhaps be cheaper to make a bathroom like this than the traditional way. Every finish we chose was just perfect for us and this house. And knowing that we didn’t break the bank on this project makes it even more satisfying. Basement Finishing

Our award winning basement finishing system turns your cold, damp basement into a dry and beautiful finished space.

I had easy access to running all my electric for my ceiling lighting. I mounted all my recessed lights up in the rafters and all on dimmer switches. This is a awesome look when all completed and you dim those lights with that black ceiling above. This is exactly what I was up against in the rancher I live in. I needed more living space but didn’t want to move to a larger home.

We had lots of old doors with this house so we used them. This one I painted with chalk paint so I would have a chalk board and hung it on our laundry room. Chalk paint is handy to use around the house. I have a hub about chalk paint. If you feel like it check it out. … Read More

Wainscoting Ideas

Here’s the rundown of the work I did. I began by tearing down all the wood plank paneling, the ceiling tile paneling (don’t ask), the tiled tub surround and the tile floor. Then I ripped down the wall covering on the insulated outer wall and installed a window (can’t believe there wasn’t a window!) and new insulation. Rather than living with drywall dust, I opted to install bead board panels on all the walls and the ceiling. I installed 1×6 pine baseboards and 1x2s for crown molding with 1x4s and 1x5s for trim with a few special trim pieces to make the space look more vintage.

A good way of separating fire and water is to add something made of wood in between, such as a plant or a painting of a plant. Absolutely stunning! I love the transformation. I’m sure they are thrilled with their new master bath retreat. … Read More

Very good tips. I’m not good at decorating. I leave that to my husband but you definitely have some very interesting points and maybe I’ll try a few of your suggestions and see how it goes. The dust, dirt, and fumes from paint or wood staining, glue from floor paneling or carpet, paste, and other odors may produce allergens and cause minor grief to family members and pets who are sensitive to irritants. Corner baths and showers are great for saving space and i have found that many … Read More
