Bathrooms are often among the smallest rooms in the house, but they are rich with opportunity in a green remodel. No matter what the design goals for the renovation, two practical essentials are managing water and steam and selecting durable materials that are made to handle what’s often a tough environment.
I do NOT recommend pine sol. Ive been using it for a year now and I dread washing the floors as it leaves spots and streaks. We are renting and I just had it on my to do list to find another product. Im off to buy some vinegar and a microfiber mop so I thank you for your help! I really debated whether or not to paint the pine planked ceiling. I actually like the look of the raw pine, but it didn’t match the other wood in the house, so I decided to go with my gut and paint it white. And I’m so happy I did. There’s nothing like white to brighten and make a room appear bigger than it is.
According to Remodeling magazine, the national average for a full bathroom remodel is $16,128. The magazine also reports that this improvement will increase your home’s resale value by an average of $11,688. But in our area you can get a good bathroom remodel for around $5,000 and turn your effort into home equity gold. my only comment is that I have a Mac and don’t enable cookies. couldn’t see any pictures at all. very disappointing!
You should be able to guess from the section on lighting that dark colors should be avoided if you want to create a more spacious feel in your bathroom. Consider pastels or even pale neutral colors like sand or taupe. But there is nothing wrong with a sky blue or a pale green either. The above comparison is a testament to using what you already have. That’s the same medicine cabinet, linen cabinet, sink and even the SAME toilet.
If you have friends who have skills you are missing, you may be able to barter with them by sharing your skills with them. Don’t forget, the trade doesn’t have to be in remodeling. You could cook, babysit or run errands while they work on installing lighting fixtures for example. Despite the advice from our realtor to repaint our colorful walls back to a neutral, off-white, we kept things as is, and the first person who looked at the house fell in love with the colors and ended up buying it.
