There are a few things we have planned for the basement area. First and foremost is a bedroom/bathroom combination. This is initially designed for Abby (soon to be twelve) to have a larger space than her currently fairly small bedroom. But it will also be designed for the possibility of one or more of our aging parents to move in with us. Consequently it will need to be designed in an accessible manner, including wider doors and a walk-in shower (no tub). We’d also like it to have a walk-in closet for Abby and/or the parents. It should be large enough to fit a … Read More

Our contractor did everything.

Hi Janice – Well… that’s quite a lot of info and questions there. My advice… Moms tend to make the buying decisions when it comes to homes. And… finishing your basement can add quite a bit of value to your home. So, I would tear everything except the studs and the electrical out and refinish your basement the way you yourself would use it. After deciding to leave the tiles in place, the next step we took was to rip out … Read More

We anchored the shelving units in place and trimmed around the cupboards on the bathroom side, painted the trim to match the baseboards, and mounted the glass we reattached the baseboard and touched up the few, small scuffs and nail holes.
