DensGuard may also cost a couple dollars more than traditional cement board, but is worth the money for the benefits of easier tile installation. One side of the board is textured to hold tile better and is as easy to install as drywall. DensGuard tile backer is also better at eliminating moisture penetration to prevent mold and mildew growth behind tiles.
What I like about the Ikea cabinet is that the plumbing does not take up space. It sits flush against the wall, so that we have large roomy drawers to store things in their organizers that are made to fit the … Read More
My parents had their bathroom remodeled over the summer, and for some dumb reason, I didn’t think to blog about it until now. I mean, it was done by the local Buckel Remodeling -which, full disclosure, is my boyfriend’s dad.

All of these suggestions are so helpful. Where to hang the picture, not bright enough lighting and wall colors.. we did pick colors that were softer tones at least and they worked well. My favorite color was called wedding cake and no matter what you … Read More

Yes, there is: You have to apply joint compound—or Teflon tape—to all (or almost all) threaded fittings. If you don’t use one or the other of these, the spot where two pieces are screwed together will leak. I prefer joint compound, a gooey paste that acts as a waterproof glue” to keep threaded fittings from leaking. The vanity is a very deep brown but when placed next to our black and … Read More
Deciding to purchase replacement windows for your home is a big deal. The cost can be quite high depending on what style and type of window you choose. So knowing the correct questions to ask is not only important, but essential for the wallet.
Brighter colors are the name of the game here as children in general love them. Nor should you limit the paint; older dressers can be painted and given a new life. One parent painted an thirty year old dresser in white and metallic blue automotive paint in a beautiful bedroom makeover. This is the cleanest and most time effective method since there is no actual rebuilding of the window opening or refinishing the interior. With this method, the exterior trim pieces (the brick molding and sill) are wrapped in a weatherproof vinyl or aluminum cladding and then sealed. Me either, Simone. Right now all I have … Read More

I have always wanted to use an old vanity in my bathroom. Actually, it’s a dry sink, but it would be just right for our downstairs half bath. Seeing your beautifully done transformation makes me want this to happen even more! Trouble is, my husband is neither handy, nor interested. Guess I’ll have to learn how to do it myself! You won’t be able to submit it as an answer to the question, but it can still totally count! Just share a link to it in this thread! It’s totally not against the rules to do so. Lowe’s offers a variety of bathroom … Read More

Knowledge to make repairs to drywall, replace tile and easy plumbing fixes led the way to more difficult and challenging renovations. As more and more people started looking for home renovation information, sites began springing up all over the world-wide-web. Teeny cabinets are gone! Can you believe they were only 32 inches tall? The floor was protected as we were keeping the existing tile.
An excellent hub on remodeling on a budget. Great tips. Love the idea of turning a dresser into an island for the kitchen as well as the bookcase for cookbooks etc. Voted way up, useful, awesome, interesting and will share. The furniture was moved, but never completely moved out of the room. The dressers were too heavy and … Read More

We went with Buck Buckley’s Total Basement Finishing because we were impressed with the product and we felt that it was superior to drywall when it comes to dealing with moisture. By looking at the finished product, you would never know that it is not drywall and it looks great. Buck and the crew did an outstanding job and they were great at letting you know where they were in the process along the way.

Since I’m laid up for awhile from foot surgery, (I talk about that a little here ) things have been a bit slow around here in terms of creativity. I was completely unprepared in every way to a) re-injure my foot, therefore leading to surgery and b) stay off of my feet for more than 12 weeks. As a result, I’m kinda seriously lacking in the project department. So I thought I’d share our guest bathroom remodel from a couple years back.
This is the guest bedroom, which now had a walk-in closet made from the two back-to-back, shallow closets. We replaced the doors, painted the room and the built-in bookshelves, and added a heating duct (out of view). Before, as part of what used to be a garage years before we bought the house, there was no direct heat to this room. This is great. There are not enough … Read More
We have showers! Well, kind of. They’re not functioning yet but they’re getting close. Let’s start with the Master bathroom shower. It looks HUGE but the actual usable/splashable space makes up about 2/3’s of the below green area.
Such a helpful hub here RedElf! I enjoyed the marvelous photos. (I love shopping…uh…make that looking). Your hub has afforded me several ideas for my own tiny bathroom. Problem is – I rent. So I’m somewhat limited. New Faucets- This is especially important if your bathroom has contractor grade faucets. New, higher quality faucets will be remembered by buyers. In my bathroom remodel I used an oil-rubbed bronze faucet that I purchased online very inexpensively. Heating a quick meal in the microwave is certainly convenient, but doing this may not lead to the most serene state of mind.
Homeowners should also be aware of the possibility of room expansion. If you do … Read More
