This was such a hard, but rewarding renovation. We did every little step (and misstep) ourselves after full days at work… demo, stud work, drywall, concrete floors, paint, installing toilets, sinks, faucets, and tile. The only thing we left to the professionals was installing the shower door (with glass that large, you’ve got to trust the professionals)!
The next step was is to refinish the kitchen cabinets. Now you could have the cabinets professionally refaced. Since I was going the rout of frugality, I opted to paint my cabinets and replace all the cabinet nobs and drawer pulls with all new hardware. Because our children were little when we bought this cabinet we fitted a hook fastening at the top. Although this cabinet is very stable, if you bought a similar one that was less stable, you could use a bracket to fasten it to a wall so avoiding small … Read More
This past weekend, we did a quick remodel of our bathroom. My spouse repainted the walls, doors, and trim. He replaced the baseboard and the vanity, because water took a toll on our only bathroom, and the laminate started to come off the vanity. We have new baseboard that is a type of vinyl, but it looks like wood now that it is painted and caulked. My spouse is so handy from fixing everything around here that he works fast. The vanity and sink that we removed was donated to Stardust: Goodwill’s version of a ReStore. The sink was in great condition.

Yesterday was a long day spent cleaning out Matt’s Grandmother’s house so we can finally list it on the market on behalf of her estate. So how can you save here? First, look at the color. Neutral colors like tan, brown, and light beige are more popular, which means they’re more expensive. To save money, consider and price out a wider swath of colors. We have always had this little niche above the hallway leading into our bedroom. Never have done anything with it, but I thought it would be a great spot to add more candles and this great vintage rose … Read More

For some reason, I can’t convince myself to take it easy on projects around the house, and lately my mind has been wandering to the least favorite room in our home: The Bathroom.
As for the basic materials such as glue, nails, screws, sandpaper (you need to scuff sand all surfaces before you apply adhesives), etc, just go to your local hardware or home improvement store. Use granite remnants for counters. Granite shops often have small bits of granite left over from bigger jobs and will sell you enough for a bathroom vanity counter at a discount. To find out what’s available, call your local shops first then drop by to see the granite and negotiate the price. You have certainly gone to a great deal of effort in planning your accessible garden beds. I am quite impressed by the amount of detail involved.
