This is the first in a short series of videos showing how to remodel a bathroom. This video shows how to remove everything from the bathroom (excluding the tub), to get ready for new flooring. Subsequent videos show how to install vinyl tiles with grout and how to install beadboard and a new faucet.
The main reason we began the remodel was to get rid of the carpet and lay down tile. Secretly I dreamed of new tile around the sinks (especially the part right under the mirror), new cupboards, new faucets and a new light fixture. I did not expect such a dramatic transformation, but I got it! I found this blue bathroom along with a really great post from some people who did a 1940’s style remodel just last year. Again, the tile countertop. And that same great floor pattern. After reading your hub, Bathroom Remodels: Bathroom Sinks … Read More
I thought I’d share a new remodel project that I’m working on. The house that my girlfriend just moved into is really great but the Master Bath has some issues. Since they were going to remodel the Basement anyway they decided to tackle the bath at the same time. Here is the Bath as it was when the house was for sale.
Very good tips. I’m not good at decorating. I leave that to my husband but you definitely have some very interesting points and maybe I’ll try a few of your suggestions and see how it goes. The dust, dirt, and fumes from paint or wood staining, glue from floor paneling or carpet, paste, and other odors may produce allergens and cause minor grief to family members and pets who are sensitive to irritants. Corner baths and showers are great for saving space and i have found that many … Read More

Another option is to integrate beadboard with decorate tile. Combining white tile with tan beadboard is another option which works well in the kitchen. Creating a backsplash with beadboard for the kitchen is a classic colonial look. We have several bedrooms in the basement which are carpeted, but we decided to use tiling for the remaining flooring. It does get pretty chilly, but … Read More
Increase the energy efficiency of your home by increasing the insulation in the walls and ceilings. Home built 20 years ago or more have little or no insulation. Thinly insulated ceilings allow heat to escape in the winter and hot air in during the summer. Fiberglass blankets and rolls applied to the ceilings are relatively easy for the home remodeler to handle while loose-fill and blown-in materials are often left to insulation professionals. Wall insulation can be increased by blowing it in through a hole in the wall or during major remodeling when either the wallboard or siding has been removed. The U.S. Dept. of Energy lists the guidelines for homes based on region. Learn more about increasing the insulation in your home here.

Yes, there is: You have to apply joint compound—or Teflon tape—to all (or almost all) threaded fittings. If you don’t use one or the other of these, the spot where two pieces are screwed together will leak. If you’re not going to be in the home long, you might not want to go to the trouble and cost of adding insulation to walls and ceilings. The kind with self-sealing seams is the best and the easiest to use. This type of pipe insulation can be easily cut to fit your pipes. Before purchasing pipe insulation, measure the diameter of your pipes to make sure … Read More
How often do you see a filthy spa bathroom with a mildewed ceiling? If spa owners let their bathrooms deteriorate like that, they certainly won’t receive many customers.
